UMM - - Who Am I
???
My name
is TJ Shumaker. My Grandmother was Viola Boring
married to Chester Ross and I am
descended from the Western Pennsylvania branch of the Boring family
My direct ancestors in Pennsylvania
were Isaiah Boring (b. circa 1770) and
Abraham Boring (b. 8/10/1768) and both sons of Reuben
Boring and Nancy Ann Vaughn, Reuben being the Great-Grandson of John
Boring of Baltimore who died in Oct. 1690 in Baltimore Maryland. Isaiah first imigrated to
Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania about 1790, followed shortly by his two brothers, Abraham and
Reuben. Within the next 15 to 20 years, Isaiah and Abraham relocated
to Indiana County (next to Huntingdon) where they resided the rest
of their lives, and some of their children intermarried. By
1810, their brother Reuben relocated to Greene Co. Pennsylvania where he resided the rest of
his life.
Many of their descendants have continued to this day to make Indiana County
and the surrounding counties their home. Sometime before 1830,
Isaiahs' nephew Zacheriah Boring also moved to Huntington County where he resided until his
death and many of his descendants also continue to live in the
surounding counties.
The
original genealogy of the my Boring family began with my Granduncle
Kenneth Martin Boring (1907 - 1991). He collected small documents
and material throughout his life. About 1970, My mother Vaida
Eleanor Ross became involved with her uncle Kenneth and she
inherited most of the material that he had. She in turn,
started diggng further and collecting historical documents,
birth/death certs and the such and accumulated boxes full of
material.
Although she is still somewhat active, I inherited
this project about 1990 and have been at it ever since. When I
first began, I was surprised by the lack of documentation that
seemed to be available. I took it upon myself to reslove that
problem and since I was "retired", spent a lot of time traveling and
going through obscure and not so obscure records (Tax records being
my favorite), and corrected a lot of misinformation that was being
passed around. With my family pretty well together, I
continued with the rest of the Borings, especially the Early
Maryland Boring Family, and continue so to this day. Although,
Hurricane Karina stopped me dead in my tracks, I hope to get back to
it soon.
That being all said and done, This would not be
complete without saying that I did not do this alone. To make
a list of everyone that I talked to, those who contributed much,
those that I worked with over the years and continue to work with,
and the many others would take pages. Please be advised that this
is as much their work as mine. My major contribution aside
from my research, was to try to make all this available to everyone researching
the Boring family to find it in one location, thus eliminating
the need for duplicate effort and saving time and money for
everyone.
